Hello, strange world! I'm a 20 year old, jack of all trades, profession of none. Allow me to introduce myself. I'd like you to get to know me a little bit better. A little about myself...I'm bluntly honest, to a fault. I wear my heart on my sleeve, and really couldn't care less about what anyone thinks. I strive for individuality, both in game and IRL. It makes for some interesting fashion styles ;) I've been role-playing for over 9 years. It all started with Neopets, believe it or not. Oh and that's another thing. I'm a huge dork, and proud.

I came here from a game called TSO in 05.. so i know  Alphaville all too well, had an old friend there. Mr JC Soprano, let's say that I am currently in the mafia relocation program.  I was a very bad girl in TSO, and to be honest.. Im not sorry for it. It was a blast.

In trying to do something different, I started the first LaSombra group in sl.. yeah.. I did.  Along with  a few other amazing VtM players like Tyler Vox ( Brujah), Rain Williamson ( gangrel), Dominae Desmoulins, and  Gabriel Montagne ( torries).. so on we had a pretty good rp group.  But so many  branch out. and well.. Second Life sex club owners are now playing a meta-game using faux furniture stores to circumvent the Mature and Adult land zoning rules and run their sordid sex dens unimpeded - a situation first brought to our attention by Lillie Yifu in the 2nd Sex blog.

While investigating this issue, the Herald was contacted by a concerned citizen, who chose to adopt the codename "Deep Lag" to preserve their anonymity, so that they could discuss the issue openly.

Deep Lag first gave an introduction to the background to how these questionable sex clubs often operate; finding unlagged sims and buying small parcels to set up in.  The clubs then get swamped with visitors lagging the sim and using the sim's resources unfairly.  No doubt some unscrupulous club owners then sell their small part of the sim to the other residents for an extortionate fee which will be paid simply because other residents want to be able to enjoy their land in peace and without lag.  This variation on the donut hole strategy has no doubt been successful for many of these sex club owners.

I was a WoW addict until I found SL, then my poor priest took an almost permanent back seat. What I loved about WoW, all those random little things that never got me leveled but would have me in stitches, were what drew me into SL. That, and shopping. I've found that a Second Life shopping spree will give me (almost!) the same satisfaction as a real life one - for far less money.

Orchid Dollinger -- Post 6 Grrrrl

[I came across Orchid's avatar in Midian city, and then again at CARP. I instantly fell in love with her av's face!! I love symmetrical faces and well designed shapes, and HERS fit right in with post 6! Call me Fu darling, everyone does eventually so why not start now?  I started in SL in January 2007 with only  a vague idea of what I wanted to be when the "new" wore off, but I knew I wanted to look good!

 I more or less fell in to roleplaying in Midian City and within a year was quite well established as the indomitable Fu, a somewhat imposing vampire. (shh, it's a secret!)

So what kind of person chooses a name like Dastardly for her Second Life name? Well I'm probably not what most people expect. I have a very full and varied real life and my Second Life is very full and varied as well. I am many things to many people on Second Life but always the same person no matter what role I am playing at the time. In real life I work for emergency services it can be a very stressful job but very rewarding at times as well.

Marilyn Murphy -- The 12 Days of Post 6-mux Grrrrls

[Marilyn Murphy, SL Class of 2003, founded Post 6 back before most of us had even heard of Second Life. She was for years the most famous photographer on the grid as she captured it in its formative years. Her style and charm are surpassed only by her kindness, as scores of noobs she has helped over the years can attest to. In 2008, then candidate Obama stated loudly that he would bring the troops home by the end of 2009, and that we could bank on it.  At the end of 2009, our drone cruisers are slaughtering civilians in Pakistan and our war presence swelled by 30,000 troops.

Our congress is currently trying to shove through a 2000 plus page bill to "fix" our health care system.  Nobody who can vote for or against it understands what it does.  Deals are being cut behind closed doors to buy votes for it with pork legislation.  This from the administration that promised us transparency, no more pork, and no more politics as usual.

Celebrity Trollop -- The 12 Days of Post 6-mux Grrrrls

[One would have to live under a prim rock to not know who Celebrity Trollop is. Longtime owner of Second Style Fashionista, Celebrity set the gold standard for quality in blogging, magazines, fashion shows and more. She is a Second Life icon, and I was thrilled beyond words when she not only agreed to pose for us, but also to take her own pictures. Originally featured by Justine Babii in August of 2007, it is an honor to present her for the 12 Days of Post 6. ~Timothy Morpork]

Although I enjoy Christmas a lot, my favorite (US) holiday is Thanksgiving. I guess maybe turkey and pilgrim themed lingerie really isn't as exciting as the Christmas themed stuff?

[In going through the many models in the Post 6 group it occurred to me that many of the models are themselves talented SL photographers, and to successfully pull off 12 days of avatars, I should employ some of their awesomeness. At the same time, I was hoping to find someone who would be willing to step in and be the substitute Post 6 Photographer when I go on vacation. I found both in the wonderfully talented Daeynaries Lane, who took the pictures you see here and who will be filling in for me from time to time in the months to come. -Timothy Morpork]
 

I'm roughly a 30 year old mmorpg junkie/exotic dancer. Weird? Alright Ill explain.. I started off playing Ultima online when I was like 16 or 17 years old due to an old boyfriend getting me involved. At this time, UO was the ONLY mmo on the market and kind of paved the way for other games. I role played there on Atlantic for the longest time and opened of course a virtual strip club. At this time in gaming, THAT was still taboo, but I did it very cleverly. I would sell 1 year memberships for 1 million gold pieces, and have the person send me a copy of their drivers license to verify their age. The GM's saw this and saw no issues with it so they kinda... let me be. Very similar to rl strip clubs and how they work in conjunction with their local police.

Patrice Cournoyer -- The 12 Days of Post 6-mux Grrrrls

[Patrice Cournoyer is one of the most interesting of the past Post 6 Grrrls I've had the opportunity to meet. She is smart and talented and thoroughly original. She was originally featured by Post 6 founder Marilyn Murphy in January 2007. It was a pleasure to meet her, and a bigger honor to feature her again. ~Timothy Morpork]

It is hard for me to believe that I did my last Post 6 session almost exactly 3 years ago (although it was published in January of 2007). Lots has changed in my SL. Some sad, some great.

I am not married (although I do have some wonderful girlfriends). I am definitely bi-sexual now, which, as Woody Allen says, does double your chances of getting a date.

Florence Raghilda -- The 12 Days of Post 6-mux Grrrrls

[Florence Raghilda appeared in Post 6 in the middle of November and I begged her to come back and pose again. She is super smart, very funny, and gorgeous. I wanted her back to pose again because she is a good person in real life and in Second Life, and I am a big fan of everything about her. Hello Again!

I was just here posing for you a few weeks ago, and I have to say that it was a scary experience to wait for the page to load and wait to see yourself there on THE Herald. On the good side, my Second Life friends were all very supportive and loved my pictures, (as did I). On the bad side, well, Timothy had to beg me to come back here.

Clover Vella -- The 12 Days of Post 6-mux Grrrrls

[Many of the models in the Post 6 group are strangers to me because they were photographed before I joined up. Clover Vella, for example, was featured here by Bunny Brickworks almost a year ago to the day. When I went to IM Clover to ask if she would pose for this, I learned from my IM log that she and I had chatted before- as fellow Red Sox fans. When Tim asked me to pose for the Holiday post 6 page again this year I was honored and a little freaked out knowing I needed to write something, he said just talk about the year since your last shoot. If I was honest and posted about the worst year I have ever had in rl or sl, I think it would be a bit depressing for the holidays.

I really enjoy the holidays, and it's great to see the creative decorating going on all over the place.  An added bonus is seeing a few more snow sims and different environments.  I love the beach, but we do have a lot of them in sl haha.

I'm back!  Well, kinda.  You might remember me as Sigsbee Fuller.  This is my oldest avie, Amara Shino.  Some people think my name is a pun on "Maraschino cherry" but I assure you, the similarity is a complete coincidence.  I've been around SL since summer of 2006 so I guess I qualify as an old-timer of sorts.  Unlike my other avie, this one has stayed very consistent in appearance.  In fact, this is still the same shape that I made on my first day in SL!

It's nice to be back here in the Second Life Herald. I can't believe that almost two years have gone by since the last time I was here. I want to thank Timothy for inviting me, Christmas is a favorite time of year and in looking for outfits and places to pose, I got to see a lot of great places I wouldn't have otherwise. It's always fun to get bundled up and go to winter sims, something about the look of falling snow touches me.

Second Life Holiday Gift Guide: Bondage Xmas Tree, Spanking Santa

Santa gropes, strips, spanks avatars - eggnog bukake surprise awaits

This holiday season, a bondage Christmas tree and Spanking Santa illustrate the boundless creativity of Second Life residents. While we don't expect an official mention in the Lab's holiday promotions, the scene at the Something Spunky store in Tovaris sim was quite festive - both Santa and the tree are available for demonstration and sale and a small crowd formed to sample the delights of Santa and his bondage tree - a fine example of metaverse holiday spirit.

While the Herald was unable to immediately verify claims that avatars running the Restrained Life Viewer can be involuntarily stripped by the randy Santa, several residents - including Tizzy Teardrop and Dirk Talamasca - were spanked by Santa, while I was left struggling on the Christmas tree. We also witnessed a Santa eggnog bukake after the jolly old elf had became overly excited by a player who agreed to be Santa's good girl.

Hopefully this example of user generated content will not  give the US Congress, FTC, or unsupervised child avatars the wrong sort of ideas.

Restrained Life - A Vile Perversion, Masked by a Gentle Name

Beware, innocents! I had such hopes when I transferred the so-called “Restrained Life Viewer” to my personal computer. I do not use the crass term “download,” since it can have a sexual double-entendre.

Once I had installed the viewer, I obtained a dubious sounding “Bunnehs Tied Down in Writing Agony Relay”. The donor, some chuckling stranger at the Ahern Welcome Area, dressed like a theme-park animal, also provided me with a destination where I could “start ur RL fun good. LOL.”

So armed, if slightly wounded by his atrocious grammar, I began the search for others who live a life of restraint in Second Life's vast moral wasteland.

Hello Post Six Readers,

I'm Barbra Winkler and I've been hanging around in SL waiting for the lights to go out with the rest of you since 2007. In the meantime I enjoy experiencing the various cultures and belief systems and arts to be found in Second Life.

I have been blessed with a wonderful family in real life, so I'm not on very often. When I am, I am always blown away by all the cool developments and new spotlight builds there are. I love the styles that people borrow from real world things and adapt, and I also like that SL has a funky style all its own.

Hard Alley Protestors Issue Press Release

16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence visits Hard Alley in Second Life

Yesterday, about a dozen ham shaped avatars staged a protest in Hard Alley - a notorious role play sex sim - to warn against the objectification of women in the virtual world of Second Life. Could this the beginning of a wave of activism in the virtual realm - or will the Hard Alley property owners simply smile and enjoy the traffic boost?

Less Equals More for the Restrained Life Viewer

Better bondage in Second Life

When you hear about a new Viewer, usually you hear about the new things you can do with it; it will run faster, it can encypt your IM's, it can make your boobies jiggle.   (And honestly, I would be worried about a company complaining about not being able to read your private messages.)   But there is a viewer that provides less experience for the user, the Restrained Life Viewer or RLV.

RLV is an addition to the main SL viewer that allows for other items and people to control your SL experience.  If you wear the right attachments, then you can be forced to sit on a poseball.  You can be not only stripped nude but made to wear skin or other attachments.  You can be frozen and unable to move, intentionally, not because of lag.  You can be gagged and unable to speak in main chat, understand main chat, or be able to see peoples' names.  You can be trapped and unable to be teleported or teleported against your wishes.

[It is a pleasure to re-introduce Toxic Menges to Herald readers. Toxic is well known as a more than just another pretty face, she is a gifted machinimist as well known for her style, good nature and humor as her technical work. I was thrilled when she said she'd pose, and speechless when she produced the outfits you see here. I usually hope to do avies justice, but in Toxic's case I know I haven't. I think I did Post 6 in September of last year, and a lot has happened since then!

I still make machinima, some of which has been exhibited at real life film festivals, and has also won SL film festivals. Machinima is such good fun, and it's spurred me on to learn skills such as Photoshop and After Effects.

Bob Boothroyd -- Post 6 Guy

[Normally I have my Post 6 pictures taken weeks in advance but recently real life has kept me hopping. The other evening I was scrambling for a model and Bob Boothroyd, who had introduced himself a few weeks before and offered to model "if I ever need it," happened to be on. Which is why it bums me out that people are so negative here. It's like the internet has become a place to be bitter and stir up drama. Open source advocates are pointing to the newest feature of the Emerald Life viewer as proof positive that open source software makes life better for everyone.

The latest version of the Emerald viewer includes the ability for female avatars to jiggle gently - along with what we understand is an interesting built-in animation override that does away with the default Linden chicken walk.

While this might not be exactly what M Linden has in mind for his Immersive Workspaces vision of Second Life, the rank and file players seem more than willing to make the move - as Toxic Menges demonstrates.

My name is Davida Tolsen. My sl age is 19, or that's what I like to tell people. They tend to not believe it as they get to know me better though. The first time I logged into SL was probably about five years ago, if memory serves me right, but it didn't stick. [I was helping friend and former Post 6 model Shyayn Lusch run a fishing contest at her store and turned around to see the most gorgeous Neko creature I had ever seen. I asked her if she would pose for us and was thrilled that she said yes. I'm Vamp, known in SL as Lady 'Vampirella Jewel' Dragos or Lady Vamp. This is a forum rather new to me, since I'm accustomed to standing on the other side of a lens; so you can imagine my surprise when this gentleman I'd never met before IMs asking if I would like to pose. However, there is a first time for everything. So being, I will share with you some of who I am, both in and out of SL.

I've now been in SL for almost three years. Like most, I've had my phases- been winged,  a vampire, a pole dancer etc. etc., but now I've settled with being me. Well that is to say me with a  few subtle improvements. I'm not heavily tattooed and I don't have cat ears or a tail in real life. So the more observant of you will notice I'm a bbw. I don't really like that as a moniker, but it's what most people use, so I will stick with it. I am in short a big woman, fat if you like. That's up to you of course.

Strokerz Toyz/Eros LLC Takes Linden Lab to Court in Class Action Lawsuit!!!

Lawsuit seeks injunction against Linden Research to prevent intellectual property rights infringement in Second Life

Shannon Grei and Kevin Aldermann's Eros LLC have filed a complaint in US District Court in Northern California against Linden Reseach alleging "Linden Lab, with knowing and conscious intent to do so, profits in multiple ways and at multiple stages from the illegal conduct" and asks for an injunction to halt the activity. Eros LLC markets a line of sex animations for the virtual world of Second Life, and has built a successful business - but the accumulated frustrations with the weak enforcement of intellectual property rights on the part of Linden Lab seem to have reached the breaking point.

When the Herald contacted Stroker Serpentine for comment, Mr. Serpentine (Kevin Aldermann in real life) said, "This is not about financial gain. Seldom do class actions result in substantial class settlements. This is about a pattern of ambivelence over six years. We want fundamental change in the regard to the very content and creators that made SL what it is today."

The complaint begins:

"Plaintiffs Eros, LLC (“Eros”) and Shannon Grei, d/b/a Nomine (“Grei”) (collectively, “Plaintiffs”), bring this class action complaint against Defendants Linden Research, Inc. and Linden Research International, Inc. (collectively, “Linden Lab” or “Defendant”), headquartered in San Francisco, California, for its practice of violating the real-world intellectual property rights of proprietors of virtual content within the Second Life virtual world (“Second Life”), which Linden Lab owns and operates."

The illegal conduct alleged includes

"directly and secondarily violated the intellectual property rights of Plaintiffs and other Second Life proprietors.  Linden Lab directly and secondarily infringes the trademark of Plaintiff Eros by using Eros’s mark to sell infringing virtual goods within Second Life and by providing the tools to other infringing Second Life users.  Linden Lab directly and secondarily violates the copyrights of Plaintiff
Grei by reproducing and displaying her copyrighted works within Second Life, and by materially contributing to and supervising the infringing conduct of others within Second Life."

Selonna Torok - Post 6 Grrrrl

My name is Selonna Torok. My first name came from a combination of wanting something contemporary sounding, but also having a desire to have a completely unique name in SL - hence, Lonna - SL - Selonna. The last name is because I am here to rock - Torok. Cheesy, right?

When a few friends first introduced SL to me, I was absolutely against it. I have to pay real money for virtual items, or try to find ways to earn it? Who are these furry people? And why do men keep exposing their ill-shaped genitals to me? It was when I began to look at the more esoteric values of SL that I came to appreciate it as a valuable platform for those who are so inclined.

Firstly, I am a woman and an active duty member of the US Army. I have used SL as a means to keep in contact with my friends and family while I'm away from home. Honestly, talking on the phone for hours is boring and tedious no matter how much you love someone - so, exploring SL with them has been fun.

Sigsbee Fuller -- Post 6 Grrrrl

[I met Sigsbee Fuller while walking around one of my favorite haunts for finding beautiful and interesting Post 6 avatars. The fact that Sigsbee immediately jumped out at me among all the gorgeous pixelflesh there speaks volumes about the quality of this week's avie. I was thrilled that Sigsbee agreed to model for us, if for no other reason I count her among my good friends in SL now, and for that alone I sincerely hope I've done her beauty the justice it deserves. -Timothy Morpork]

HI!  My name is Sigsbee and I never imagined I would be a Post 6 model.  But that's just how SL is, you never know what adventures you might end up having when you log in.  I've been in SL for a while, over three years now.  It's amazing how fast time goes by.

I've never had any interest in any other online worlds or "games."  What i love about SL is the total lack of purpose to it, no hit points or quests or any such nonsense.  Here in SL I get to do what I like to do in real life, hang out and waste time talking to friends.  And of course there is shopping for clothes, although I seem to have more fun in SL taking off my clothes than putting them on.

[Heidi Hastings IM'd me and asked about being a Post 6 girl, and I swear I had a moment of SL prejudice- a wholesome name like that screams blond cheerleader or minivan driving cougar, and that's what I expected to find when I opened her profile to snoop. Not that there's anything wrong with cheerleaders or cougars,  but when I met the smart and lively wit of Heidi Hastings I knew she'd make a great Post 6 Grrrrl, I just hope I've done her justice. -Timothy Morpork]

I came to SL in 2006, and have since been variously addicted, nonchalant and all the gambit of emotions in between. I quickly found Gor *nods nods* yes I said the Gorean word, I am Gorean, and I love it! I find shopping boring after about 5 minutes, and popping my avie onto a dance ball, and listening to vacuous idiots play gestures every 9.7 seconds drives me crazy, (Don't get me wrong, I have spent a few rather nice *sl'dates"* being taken dancing, but that's more the exception than the usual).

My girlfriend and I are exclusive. In the two and half years we’ve been together she has not only forbidden me other women, but in response to my persistent and hopeful inquiries has also banned my consorting with nekos, furries, vampires, lycanthropes, cuckolds, their bulls, horses, men hung like horses, men of average size, and men hung like gnats.

But recently it occurred to me that she has never, ever said one thing against plants! I set out to explore the possibilities. Having abandoned my usual red tresses and couture stylings in favor of a more crunchy-granola elfy nature-girl look, I arrived at what is arguably the most famous of Second Life garden spots: Chakryn Forest.

Mayya Sirnah -- Post 6 Grrl

[This week's model IM'd me about modeling and met with me for the obligatory interview and I was completely charmed. She even came cheerily back to do a second photoshoot when I admitted that through a boneheaded but complicated computer move I had managed to delete one third of the pictures of her from the first shoot. So like, I'm a hopelessly neurotic person. Not to an extreme, but enough that I rewrote this miniature biography twice. So this happens to be my third draft and I'm still as clueless about what to say as I was the first time. Yes, I currently have a lot of time on my hands. Frankly, I'm tired of trying to make myself seem interesting (because it should go without saying :P) so I'm just going to go with a "stream of consciousness" style, hand it in and be done with it.

Meltemi Case -- Post 6 Girl

[Former Post 6 Photographer Justine Babii im'd me a few weeks ago with the name Meltemi Case, and as soon as I met Ms. Case I think I knew exactly what Justine meant by "unique". Meltemi Case arrived for her photoshoot with friends posing as an agent and a publicist and proceded to keep us all entertained and interested as she produced great look after great look. I came to Second Life way back in 2004; it seems like an eternity now.  In the last 5 years I've met so many wonderful people its hard to keep up with them all....including my current real life partner... and the father of two of my three boys :D

Talkin Back -- Post 6 Girl

[I found this week's model, Talkin Back, at the same club I met Shelby Ziskey, Post 6 from a few weeks ago. She was wearing the outfit you see in picture number two and I immediately started the  "Hi, my name is...." patter that sometimes nets us gorgeous Post 6 girls. I find myself the most recent addition to what looks like the very long list of Post 6 models.  I will confess, I didn't read the Herald before I was asked to do this and have been reading back issues to check it out.  Truthfully, I said yes to the shoot before I knew what the Herald was :).  This would be a good example of how I live my Second Life, it's as low risk as it gets in here and hey, who knows, you may just have a great time.

Horror, murder, suspense, drama and sex - urban roleplay sim coverage continues

Emerging somewhat less valiant and daring from her adventure at Deadend City, our reporter decides to observe events rather than getting involved as she prepares the trip to the last destination of her tour.

Toxian City's dense atmosphere and imaginative scenery impressed even Torley Linden, according to a poster at the OOC area with sampled comments from visitors. The same poster promises "Horror, Murder, Suspense, Drama and Sex", and our reporter enjoys a first glimpse on those promises while she watches the 5:29 long action packed video she triggered by clicking the Toxian Movie Trailer sign nearby. There's also a map of this two-sim city, with a legend rating places as more or less dangerous.

Exploring the city with an observer tag, the reporter becomes soon aware of a major difference between this place and the ones she's visited so far. In contrast to Deadend City and the Crack Den, Toxian City is not just populated by humans.

Spike Chunes -- Post 6 Model

[Before the cries of cronyism start, Spike Chunes was twice in the right place at the right time, in addition to being good looking of course. Ages ago, when I was wandering around wearing a girl avatar, I met Spike. A girl named Timothy turned out not to be his thing but he remained on my friend's list. Finding a good male avie who is willing to pose for Post 6 is always a challenge, so when Spike IM'd out of the blue a couple of weeks ago to see if I'd take his picture, I jumped at the chance to get him here.  My avatar got his name from the male star of the Buffy series. The vampire Spike in the show is a tough but still funny guy, I just liked his character so I adopted his name.

At first I used SL to explore, see many places, meet many people. Then I found myself in a roleplay called Dark City. I started to like roleplays in Second Life, but I had to switch to other ones as Dark City was closed. Finally I got to Gor, were I stayed a while and made me a name as Spike.

Lonely Hyena Seeks Second Life Soul Mate

Will Erk Gloom find true love in the metaverse with a Herald personal ad?

Even virtual hyenas need love. Last week Erk Gloom called to introduce himself and tell me he was feeling kinda blue - his online romantic life was a shambles and the Lindens had banned his SL partner -- could I help?

Normally I refer these sorts of inquiries to a well-known self-proclaimed metaverse expert admired for infallibility at the expense of consistency, and a sympathetic, gentle touch.

But - bad luck for me! My fave-rave anti-techno-communist/collectivist was offline, and when Erk mentioned Leda Swanson, I stopped cold.

Every year on June 3rd, the Herald staff hold a silent vigil in a deserted, silent snow sim to commemorate Leda Swanson’s transformation into a furry -  a grim reminder of how an uncontrolled furry sex addiction can lead to the depraved depths of hermaphrodite hyena sex.

Thinking about Leda and her sad fate brought back some painful memories - but I couldn't blame Erk for his interest in the Leda Swanson's transformation story. The hyena can't help it.

When Erk asked for an introduction to Leda, I had to tell him that after her transformation, Ms. Swanson had disappeared without a trace, but there was still hope. Google teaches us that targeted Internet adverts can work miracles, and the Herald tops the charts in virtual hyena readership. Perhaps a carefully crafted personal advertisement would help.

Emily Fields -- Post 6 Grrrl

[Post 6 is an attempt to present some of the incredible variety of avatars that people create to represent themselves in the virtual world. With such a huge range of genders, races and species, Second Life is an especially rich environment for finding avatars that represent whole segments of populations. Emily Fields contacted me about modeling and as I was chatting with her I realized that she represents a giant segment- "Human Teen," a segment that most of us automatically steer well clear of to avoid anything that smacks of ageplay. Hiya.  I'm Emily and I'm a bit of a rarity in Second Life.  I don't have a tail or huge breasts or wings or superpowers (unless super-cuteness is a power).  I'm just a normal eighteen year-old girl with normal proportions.  So what do I like to do?  Normal girl stuff: I shop and party and go clubbing and, you know, just hang out.  What more could anyone want?
