Variations “Fashion Show”

[UPDATE from Tenshi: Mistake on my end. Damn. If you can, please update my article to say not the Second Citizen show (whoopsssssssssss) but the "Variations Fashion Show" at the Second Convention Pavillion. Also, in case people want to know, the names of the designers and those involved:
Clothing Designs by Moodii Moxie of Simplicity
Hair Designs by Selena Gateaux of Goldie Locks
Live Streaming MC - Cher Harrington
Director - Valerie McDunnough
Local MC - Takeshi Kiama]

I planned on being nice. I really did, but I’m not going to beat around the bush. I attended the Second Citizen “fashion show” tonight, and it just plain sucked. Please, give me my Ivillage show back!

Nothing says haute couture like red, green, and blue pose balls!

I had a premonition that the show was doomed the moment I saw multi-colored pose balls on the stage and women wearing silks in the audience. SILKS, for cripe’s sakes… in PUBLIC.

Scfashshow_003

First on the stage were some gals with huge prim skirts that reminded me of those little cupcake dolls I would play with when I was younger… It was quite possible to take the doll, with its nice little formal, and flip the skirt up to compact the doll inside of a cupcake. I’m sure it was a forerunner for future cake-popping strippers, but since I am not one, I cannot confirm that theory.

Scfashshow_005

The next dresses that appeared I was very interested in until I saw the sides of the pink one. I was slightly confused. At first, I thought these were a victim of the ominous texture bleed, but they’re not. That’s the designer’s idea. What the hell?

Scfashshow_006

Third debut: SLUTWEAR!! Yes, people, as the fashion show went on, the models continued to wear less and less. These particular outfits, however, were made of latex, so at least it will take twice as long for the models to wiggle out of them.

Scfashshow_007

Then, miracle of all miracles, Poison Ivy appeared. I was hoping she would absolve us from all fashion horrors to come at the Second Citizen show, but, no. She was modeling… a celery stick. (Also, what the heck is wrong with that hair? It looks like it wants to be Princess Leia, but didn’t quite make it.)

Scfashshow_012

Overheard: “What the hell? The announcer is calling that green dress a SKIRT? That’s not a skirt. I can see her ass. Oh, ew.” (re: girl on the far right)

Scfashshow_014

And then, oooh, the SILKS! Can’t have a classy fashion show without silks, people! Nope!

Scfashshow_013

This, fortunately, or maybe unfortunately, was the best outfit of the evening. Not a whole lot to say here, but I don’t hate the outfit. It reminds me of something my old high school boyfriend would wear.

The MC wasn’t on top of things, either, but I’m sure that isn’t her fault – she was working off of a script. At one point she called a model that just wasn’t there. Just an empty poseball. (Can we not ever do the poseballs again? Please? Or if you do, make them invisible? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the ctrl+alt+T function to show invisible balls.)

The best thing about the Second Citizen show was the rotating stage.

The worst thing? – the entire rest of the show. However, I’m sure the models worked hard.

Sorry, SC. I just can’t give you the good review I was hoping to give you.

I think you about called all this correctly, but I do like that pink dress, anyway. Those big chunky shoes with the underwear — ugh!

Maybe run the whole thing again through the grinder, only this time as a techno review? In that new journalism style Uri wants.

You know, i’d like to say you’re pulling the snobby petty fashionista thing, but you’re right, those outfits do suck quite a bit.

They could have at least bothered to not make the floors alpha if they’re going to have the invisi-prims all over the shoes.

Fashion shows are not easy to do. We’ve had three at the Isle of Lesbos and still have a few things to tweak, but I built and honest-to-goodness runway for the models and provided them with a multi-pose stand. Much more interesting than pose balls and it might work even on a rotating stage. Still, kudos to the team for event trying it.

The show was about catering to many tastes.. it was not set up as a high culture only event, thus the silks and latexwear. I am sorry the show did not meet your expectations, but we were catering to a larger crowd than just one person’s cynical views, or even a few peoples views. Many walked away with good images, others did not.

There are times people will like your product, and other times they will despise it. I think Caliah did a lovely job on the show, and she put alot of work into it, as Zatzai did on the stage.

Thank you for your opinion, however, we will take criticism constructively, and please, enjoy the third day of the convention tomorrow.

Hmm I’m not sure what show Tenshi is talking about. I’ve never heard of a Second Citizens fashion show. There was a Variations fashion show tonight though, at Second Convention. The “Second Convention Fashion Show” is tomorrow though.

Fun read though! I always get a kick out of all the mistakes, no seriously! I wont bother to go into things beyond that, there are plenty of other articles about the conventions various shows out there. Thanks for the article though, we always welcome more press.

This show was the Variations Show for Moodii Moxie and Goldie Locks, not the Second Convention Fashion Show, which is tomorrow, I’m afraid ;)

Of course you’re still invited for the nineteen designers rather than two.

    Tenshi,

I do believe that the show you intended to attend hasn’t happened yet. Same place, same stages… Different Fashionista time.

That’s at Saturday, June 16th, 3 PM Second Life time!

Names of models, designers, the MC etc could go a long way into making this sound professional.
Without those basic aspects of a good “news article” this sounds more like sour grapes then an actual review.
Some details could go a long way into helping this article out.

    Jun 16th, 2007

Hey, never mind my comments about getting details. It looks like you didn’t even know what event you were at. You may need more help then the advice I offered on article writing.

Oh Tenshi, I’m so glad you never let basic research get in the way of a good, vicious rant.

ZATZAi’s response just made my day.

I correct my mistake – Second CONVENTION fashion show, or Variations Show, or whatever you guys feel like dubbing it. Sorry. The Herald threw a party and I had a few too many last night. Whatever. It was still appallingly lackluster.

    You want designers? Here:
Clothing Designs by Moodii Moxie of Simplicity
Hair Designs by Selena Gateaux of Goldie Locks

Which is a bit of a shame, because Goldie Locks was my hair of choice when I was a newbie.

Live Streaming MC – Cher Harrington
    Director – Valerie McDunnough
    Local MC – Takeshi Kiama

Here’s to hoping your *next* one is better.

I planned on being nice, Tenshi, but I’m not going to beat around the bush – your reporting sucks.

What did I get out of this? That you’re still using every article you post at the Herald to hit (and miss) everyone who’s snubbed you and that some fashion show happened somewhere hosted by someone that you believe to be the Second Citizen’s forum.

What didn’t I get? Who sponsored it. Where was it? Who designed the clothing you took photos of? Who modeled them? Details, details, so I could go check it out for myself. And apparently what little detail you did offer, you got *wrong* as usual.

Tenshi, your reporting skills are the verbal equivalent of crude bling and badly made slutwear. Sorry, Tenshi, I can’t give you the good review I was ever so sincerely hoping to give you. But at least I aimed my in the right direction.

Please brush up on basic reporting skills before the next article – this one had all the merit of scrawl on a bathroom wall.

Holy f*cking cr*p!!!!! That’s fashion??? Gimme a freaking break! You’d be better off using the clothes that come in the default library than that load of rubbish. And you women tell us guys we have no fashion sense? That ‘Fashion Show’ takes lameosity to a whole new dimension of uncharted territory. Enough to make me almost want to gouge my eyes out and weep for the deluded women who consider those tastelessly arranged textures and prims to be ‘fashion’. No doubt they’re already candidates for the next round of Darwin Awards.

I really liked the show. I thought that bringing out latex and silks at a major SL fashion show by major SL designers at a major SL event was pretty daring given the current climate of the “year of the broadly offensive” edict of Second Life.

Weak words from the gal that’s vying for my position. Get your own beat, sweetheart.

  18. Morgana Fillion

    Jun 16th, 2007

At least Justine’s review actually explained which event she was talking about. What position is it that you think you have, Tenshi? Biggest Biyotch? Yes, she might not qualify for that one.

This article is an absolute embarrassment – the incompetence on display here is of Linden Lab proportions.

What does the SLHerald think of the quality of this article and others by this author? Does the SLHerald have any standards – will you post any old crap? What does it take to get fired at the SLHerald?

  20. Justine Babii

    Jun 17th, 2007

I have my own beat, Tenshi. I covered the show for SLNN and for the Fashionista blog. That wasn’t a very nice thing to say.

I hope you’re not as unhappy as you seem.

  21. Tenshi Vielle

    Jun 17th, 2007

Oh, honey, don’t you pull that crap.

I don’t think you’re hearing unhappiness. I think you’re hearing, “get the hell out of my territory.” We had this discussion before.

Tough, Tenshi. The Herald isn’t your territory. You’re kept around solely for the entertainment value of the negative commentary you generate.

Don’t tell people to get lost unless you have the power to enforce it.

Where’s the retraction for incorrectly attributing that quote you based your whole first attack piece around a couple of months back?

This nostrum you’ve chosen to employ as a means to bolster your flagging self esteem is just making you a worse person than you already were.

You’re trying too hard to come off as as some sort of hard nosed fashion critic, and it’s glaringly obvious.

    Poseur.

I can tell you from experience there is a lot of work involved in producing a fashion show. They are not easy to do.

I read eight or ten fashion blogs about SL clothing/jewelry/hair/skin etc. on a regular basis. This, however, is not a fashion reveiw but rather a random tyrade from an underdeveloped writer. SL Herald, raise the bar here. No one really wants to read rubbish like this. We want true reporting, clear facts, and meticulous descriptions peppered with opinion. This piece was nothing more than spitful ranting by and egomaniac who likes to hear herself speak. Please spare us next time.
