W-Hat Celebrates 3rd Year in SL

Punk rock and memorials to perma-banned griefers
Decomposing Monstre banned & reinstated without explanation the next week

by Pixeleen Mistral, National Affairs desk

I was recently in Baku hoping for a two-for-one story – one group of goons griefing another group’s event. While waiting to see if the Patriotic Nigras or another of the up-and coming goon gangs would show up at the W-hat/Something Awful 3 years in SL anniversary, I partied down in the filled-to-capacity Baku sim. Decomposing Monstre’s video shows a sample of the scene, artfully edited to disguise the lag.

The party started quietly enough…

The party was in some ways a typical SL soiree – a DJ spinning tunes for the parcel’s streaming audio, lagged out avatars with dance animations, and running commentary in chat/IM as the community socializes, slags off enemies, makes song requests and discusses the music being played.

But where was the organizer of the party? Word spread that Mr. Monstre had gone missing from the people list. Was he banned? For what? After a time Mr. Monstre began speaking to the throng via an IRC relay in world.

Of course, Baku is a little different that most other parts of SL. This is not a faux country club catering to the imagination impaired real-life-in-second-life wannabe corporate crowd, or the somewhat more adventurous gorean slavers, or even underage furries out for a yiffing hookup. No, these are goons who celebrate trolling for an outraged reaction to enhance their reputation as the astounding bad asses of the metaverse.

Conversation can veer off into somewhat unusual directions – like which Lindens are a soft touch, who got banned recently, and why. Decomposing Monstre’s disappearance from the in world people search was not noticed until after Linden office hours, but a number of goons offered office phone numbers for various usually friendly Linden staffers, as Mr. Monstre’s plaintive IRC chat was relayed in-world.

Celebration of getting banned from the SL game was the main feature of a 3 year retrospective build created for the party – including exhibits of grief balls from the early SL-wide grid crashes, portraits of the perma-banned outcasts from the game, and a section on media coverage.

I panned my camera around looking at the exhibits while the Undertones “Teenage Kicks” kicked off a classic punk rock set – a perfect counterpoint to chat about goon drinking games and discussions of why someone’s face has gone numb. If you want to feel like you are at a college party without having to smell the stale spilled beer – and without risk of someone worfing on your shoes – a virtual party scene is just fine.

Giving the Herald something to write about

A strangely quiet and subdued Aimee Weber was in attendance – but her trademark purple wings took about 5 minutes to rez for me. When I asked if someone had clipped her wings I got a definite “eep!” from Aimee. Aimee understands the importance of her wings and name recognition. The W-Hat goons had some sort of drinking game going that involved drinks whenever an SL-celebrity came to the party – so Aimee was very welcome. The appeal of this waned once the sim filled and hopeful party people waited in the next sim for spots to open. This may have been what prevented a 4chan /b/ style blockade in Baku – could the other goons even get in?

The week after the party, Decomposing Monstre had re-appeared on the persons list, and he reported that after spending 3 hours the phone on hold he did get through to the Lab, give them his personal information and they turned his account back on without any explanation. We can presume Mr. Monstre used an alt to film his party machinma, but consider the harm to his virtual brand name should his avatar be perma-banned. On the other hand – that could have gotten him into the goon hall of fame.

The Lindens have never allowed that hobgoblin of small minds – consistency – get in the way of exercising their game god powers in Second Life. Transparency has also been a low priority, so naming, shaming, and explaining offenses in hopes of shaping some shared social norms is not generally on the radar at the Lab.

Then there are the bugs in the software that runs the world – bugs which the Lindens may not want to acknowledge. This leaves residents – especially those whose gameplay involves tap dancing on the edge of acceptable behavior finding themselves at times unexpectedly on the wrong end of the ban stick – or was it a problem with the database? We may never know.

If name and reputation are the true currency of the game, unexplained account disappearances – particularly just before the Linden weekend office evacuation – may be unsettling even for those who are not goons.

I have to admit that video is quite interesting with Prok is in there with her Nazi uniform on, dancing her ugly ass off.
    (wtf?)

Thanks Pix. And I think Deco should be recognized for what he is: one of the funniest, most creative, most artistic people in SL. If he isn’t welcome, it’s a fascinating instance of dumbing down by LL.

Well I can say that I saw Baku being set up for the party just before I was Permabanned from SL forever…. or was I?

Heh my griefing days are over though. I had my fun. I can tell you one thing Linden Labs can’t do. And that is, they can’t hardware ban every damn computer in the world. I have many friends to lean on :) And I have many…

In a way I’m glad I wasn’t there in game to party hard with the W-hat. Because as I learned later, they weren’t the group for me to belong to. I appreciate their artistic and creative madness. But I care not for the various members who sound like off-shoots of /b/tards. Most members I found were hard to carry on a normal conversation with. God would it hurt to put down your Flying Penis Launcher for one moment and socialize for a bit? *I know the absurdity of that question, stfu!*

Ah speaking of /b/tards. 4chan.. another cancer of society. But a Cancer I can say made me laugh sometimes. Yes they’re evil fuckers. Yes they deserve every bit of punishment for their crimes against the metaverse (god what a sissy word that is). I find them to be a disorganized mob of college geeks and anime freaks who were bullied a lot in school, or were the one’s doing the bullying. Then again I’ve never met a smart bully, so maybe that’s an oxymoron.

However I support them, for the ones who are creative *and I’m not talking about spewing pictures of tubgirl*.

The reason I’m writing this is because I wish to have my voice heard. I wasn’t a griefer when I started in Second Life. In fact I was a nice guy. I still am. What led me to the madness was pure curiosity… and boredom. The drama of Transylvania got to me *man goths are still just as bad as their emo-counter-parts*. I realized spending my hard earned money on virtual clothing and land that I couldn’t touch in real life was not only retarded, it just cries “get a life!”.
So thanks to a friend of mine, I was introduced to the land of Baku. I was fan SA first off. So it wasn’t like I had no clue about SA or the forum goons, and they’re crazy photoshops. I just didn’t know they were in Second Life. But it made sense why they are.
I decided to then try my hand at creating goofy avatars. I had a few I was proud of. Like my Crackhead Emo Mouse, or Old Granny Hooker in a Wheelchair.

But they weren’t up to par to the ones I saw in Baku. That’s when I realized I wasn’t in their league.

Instead my avatars focused on the darkside of things. I walked around in a death avatar, fixed it with looped sounds of people screaming in agony, followed by a disturbing laugh. That was my favorite avatar… even though some of it came from the Freebie Warehouse heh. Hey I refused to put any more money into Linden Labs pockets. Screw them. I have a stomach to feed.

Anyways I never attacked anyone. Which again doesn’t explain why I was permabanned in the first place. Attacking people was too easy to do first off. And I wasn’t one to throw insults, because there’s no point in insulting people online. I could sit here all day lone telling you why I think Prok is a complete joke, but what would that prove?

No the only thing i took joy in was taking my creations into settings where they probably didn’t belong. Like just walking into a sex sim as Skeleton with a top hat, and jumping on sex balls with people just to get a response out of them. Once I got my fix I moved on. The Neva Orgy Room is a great resource for laughs.

Now if you find that to be such a threat, then who is the one with the real problems?

Anyways that’s all I wanted to write. I just wanted to give the perspective of someone who wasn’t affiliated with any griefer groups. Or someone who wasn’t known for being a griefer to begin with *well until a Linden saw me speaking to a few 4channers*. I did it simply because the world allowed me to do it. And I had a blast. And to give thanks to W-hat for the inspiration. And I still pop in Baku every once in a while to see what’s up. Like I said, LL can’t permaban every machine in the world.

I miss Second Life so much. I had so much fun hanging out with W-Hat. But my health is declining and my job is taking off. Still, W-Hat is full of some of the most creative and funny people I’ve met on the Internet.

Didn’t this party happen a while back? I recall it being weeks ago.

That said, I miss people like King Frederick. I never knew him outside of Second Citizen…I don’t think we ever met in world. That said, some of his insights on Second Citizen were some of the best.

I put trust in individuals, not organizations. As anyone knows, I’ve had my run-ins with W-Hats in the past (Plastic Duck, Louis Neutra, etc), and my agreements and friendships with them (Gene Replacement, Verbena Pennyfeather). I refuse to every judge someone merely by being in a Second Life group. Guilty by association is something Bush does so much better than anyone… except for certain Herald writers. ;-) Errr, writer. ;-)

Because Lindens now openly say that they are after money, I give them a free gift: a proposal to earn more money.

They could make more money by selling the bans as part of role plays and thus bring murder in-world to enhance the game!

Well geez… maybe THAT is why you got banned in the first place, idiot.
But that’s good that you enjoyed it. (wtf?) I laugh at people who kept saying stuff like “I never attack anyone” for the reason of their ban. Seem like people are forgetting that harassment and other things are ban-able acts.

“Then again I’ve never met a smart bully, so maybe that’s an oxymoron”
    Yup, that’s about right.

(Maybe LL need to put a general warning message at sign up page “idiots are everywhere”.)

Read all the notices pertaining to Hazim and or posted by him (the site is owned by supposedly “reformed” PN member Nexis). Looks like Hazim isn’t as innocent as he claims. Watch him now claim “I don’t grief.” He’s a griefer by proxy whether he likes it or not by helping, creating, and advocating griefing. He calls himself “Megagriefer” too.

Oh, and it doesn’t matter Goon or Anonymous, they both go hand in hand. It’s just that Anonymous don’t like being called Goons but they sure do love claiming they come from Ebaumsworld to deflect what they do.

    >>I love how types like you Hazim, Mootykips, Nexis, or other Anons/Nigras/Whatever always never counter anything brought up against you instead you make some kind of offhand joke.< <

It's possibly because none of us care what you think, although you're wrong, I counter it all the time, but comments are easy and fun to delete, isn't that right Profoky?

It's also somewhat funny that you write under a pseudonym, yet you're "anti-anonymous". Saying you hate anonymous is kinda like saying you hate black people, it's a more diverse group than you'd think.

    >>”Types like you”

Wow, that kinda gets me. Grouping us all together must make it easier for you to just say you hate someone without thinking about it. It’s because of types like YOU that I do what I do in the first place, and we all know what I do.

I was added to banlink and libeled and what have you even before I griefed or joined the PN, I figured I might as well live ut to everyone’s expectations if I was going to get punished for it anyways. People confuse /b/tards and the PN. You’re doing the same thing. “Oh, he was flying around on a flashing couch dressed like a cat and yelling about mudkips, GRIEFER!”.

Please don’t tell me you’re a furry, or I’m going to cut you.

Hell, you seem stupid enough that you don’t even know half of what I do, you only know what I post on the blog. Who says there isn’t stuff that I don’t post there? Haven’t found out any of that, have ya? Know any of our members? I highly doubt it.

    >>Actually I’m something more outside of SL.<<

Namefag. You could never understand anonymous, don’t even try. I really don’t know why you think I’d care if any of anonymous’ hubs went down. Anonymous is an idea. As long as life exists, anonymous will live on. With that name it’s pretty obvious that you’re a HUGE tool.

It’s still somewhat laughable though, you mock anonymous WHILE anonymous. Why not be a man and tell us your name in SL? Perhaps because you’re afraid we’ll attack you? While anonymous, you can say anything you like without having to deal with the consequences later. That’s really all it is.

Stop trying to group the PN together into one type of person, this is why we try to remain anonymous. Most people would love to put us all in one little folder together and then forget about us, but we’re all different.

Because of recent articles and blog entries, it’s pretty unsafe to be a /b/tard or goon in SL, unless you want to stay in Woodbury or Baku. A wise goon once said that if a goon joins Second Life, he can either join w-hat, get sucked into a fetish community, or get banned.

This is especially true when dramafags that think all /b/tards are bad.

I convinced a friend to join SL a few days ago, a /b/tard, he’d been playing on one of my alts while I was away for a week a month ago, so he already knew how to play. He didn’t care much about griefing, he was a scripter and a builder. When he made his first account for himself, I had him talk to a few people and ask for some of the better *safe* things I’d made, music boxes, texture packs, things like that, since he was just starting, and didn’t have any money. His account got disabled once, saying he had fake info, and his account was disabled for two hours. The info was correct, yet he had to change it to fake info to get the account back up. He already knew some people through me, so he knew who to avoid, and who to befriend. This brings us to Frontier Linden. I really don’t know Frontier all that well, any time I’d ever tried to talk to Frontier, all I got was no response, or some cat face and a subsequent teleport. From what I’d heard, Frontier seems to protect FurNation, and tends to ban /b/tards under even mild suspicion that they are PNs. I know he liked Torley though, he went to one of his office hours. Anyhow, I think he was doing something in the w-hat sandbox when he got a group IM from the woodbury group telling everyone to go to the ark. This wasn’t a grief attack or anything, it was your regular say-memes-around-the-furries-see-how-long-it-takes-us-to-get-ejected type thing. I doubt it took that long, because about a minute after he TPs in, Frontier Linden shows up. My friend then commented on how Frontier won’t talk to /b/tards and will TP away or will give them the cold shoulder instead (a blatant lie is fine too). Frontier says “excuse me?”, tps away, and then his account was disabled. That kinda sucked.

I forget where I was going with this.

    Welcome to my disorganized mind.

I’m proud to hang with the transgendered faggot furry bondage dorks any day, they understand the personal liberty which the goons are fundamentally opposed to.
