Spanish Politicos At War In SL

One guy with a watermelon gun threatens Second Life society

by Onder Skall

Partidopopular_002
Terroristic threat or menace?

Thursday, Reuters reported that Spanish socialist and conservative party factions are fighting it out in Second Life. The griefing tactics at each other's party offices include throwing bombs, waving guns around, rezzing fires, and "everything you could imagine" according to a Socialist Party official. I have a feeling that they aren't imagining very hard if a few explosions are the worst they've seen.

According to a report in The Register published on friday the PSOE and Partido Popular "have been entertaining Spaniards for months as the two abandon any pretence at political debate and roundly accuse each other of provoking the collapse of western civilisation." Attacks have been coming from both sides in the press, on the streets, and now in Second Life as both sides refuse to accept that anybody could possibly see the world any differently than themselves. Obviously, to disagree with their point of view, one must be evil incarnate.

Of course, no hysterical freakout would be complete in the modern age without playing the "terrorist" card:
"We have complained to the Second Life commission about the terrorism," a spokesman for the conservative opposition Popular Party said."

Friday when I visited the scene to get some lurid pictures of metaverse mahem, land owners had covered everything in banlines. [so Second Life's natural social order was asserting itself? -Editrix]

I was able to catch this one guy with a watermelon gun, that's it. They think Linden Lab is going to step in? Noobs.

These things are always disappointing. I wandered along to the FN headquarters when that was still around in the hope of catching some good old-fashioned political violence, but it was just a bunch of people shouting at each other in a laggy sim. There are plenty of clubs providing that sort of environment already.

Back in my day, people knew how to grief properly....

NigrasOnMyLawn

Just more fags that fail at being like PN

Everyone knows the watermelon gun only works on blacks

Hazim Gazov

Seriously, this is just as pathetic as the FN thing.

I walked in there and some person wearing an invisiprim with LOADS of bling on (gg there) was just running around with a cager. I just sat on a cube, then pushed her 6 sims away.

Prokofy Neva

Hell, Ordinal, back in *my* day, they knew how to have a political debate properly!

I'd just like to know that socialist party's position *is* on terrorism, frankly!

I love Spain. The only country in *the entire world* where people spontaneously, sincerely, even aside from political affiliations, turn out on the streets to protest *against terrorism*. To protest that it is wrong, and terrorists shouldn't do it. I wish we had more of that, everywhere, from Palestine to the Union Square. People always think you have to understand terrorists' unhappy childhood, and not abrogate civil rights to chase terrorists and such, and all that's well and good, but how about a nice robust repudiation of terrorism? You know, to say it's wrong, and that no social movement should use violence to achieve its aims? You know, non-violent ideals?

Why, in my day, we walked 10 miles to take part in a peace march against deployment of nuclear weapons! Kids today! Just clicking on stuff on a screen. Sheesh.

Nacon

Watermellon gun? good, I have made a hud that will stop those things from hitting me..... and violently beats up the owner of the gun by pushes. ;) Sometime they are funny.... but if they keep shooting, it's just sad and pitiful fact that they can't get a GED.

Look up SL noob in the dictionary and you'll see that exact picture of a guy with a watermelon gun wearing a cape.

Hey, enough with the disparaging remarks about the Watermelon Gun! It's great for pushing my sweetheart on the swings without me having to physically run back and forth to push her.

Watermelon gun would of made sence if he was black, but he just looks like a nub, he needs a taco gun

Anti Anonymous

Tacos are Mexican you racist *chan twip.

Very interesting information, at least for me.

I am a Spaniard. I will try to resume the politic situation in Spain for those interested in understanding the problem. This could be a hit in SL, considering global media are scouting SL and reporting to the masses relevant things there happen.

Spain is a 45 million people country with a democratic constitutional monarchy (King actually does nothing). There are elections every 4 years. The traditional political parties are:
- 40-50%: Conservative Party (PP)
- 40-50%: Socialist Party (PSOE + IU)
- 8-10%: Local Nationalist Parties (mostly in Catalonia and Basque Country. They mostly claim for Independence. They are strong in their areas.
- 1-2%: a bunch of freak parties (+50). They don't get any representation in the Government: the Cannabis Party, the Ecologist Party, the Pirate Party, some nostalgic Nazi style parties...

Due the equilibrium of votes the Conservative Party and the Socialist Party have been switching dominance during last 20 years.

During the Iraq conflict Spain was allied with USA because the regnant Conservative Party decided. Spain sent troops to the coalition that invaded Iraq.
11M of 2004, 3 days before the elections, Muslims bombed train station in Madrid, killing 200 Innocent. This caused some effects:
- Many votes turned against Conservative Party, and they lost elections. At that moment all the predictions were giving them a win again.
- Conservative Party was accused to hide data to the media, trying to show that the killers was the independent Basque terrorist group, not the Muslims.
- Situation was really tense for a few days. Hate was increasing and politics of both sides were moving to people to a close to a civil-war state. Observe Spain suffered a terrible civil war not too long (1936-1939). Distribution of forces and basic ideologies were not too different from what they are these days.

After the killing, and when the Socialist Party took the power they decided to remove troops from Iraq to calm down the masses.
During last 3 years hate and tension among the two blocks has been rising and that has been projected on the people, Both parties control giant mass media groups and they have been using them to make propaganda to help their interests. So if some Spanish people in SL has decided to translate actual problems in Spain to the virtual world, imagine what could be next.

Will we see a "real virtual war" in SL?

Thanks for reading and sorry for the mistakes.

It's "xchan", you fat furry.

Neal Bob Walton

John-Boy: A watermelon makes perfect sense in a political context. It refers to the Greens, who, like watermelons, are green on the outside and red (socialist) on the inside.

Anonymous

If youve seen one spic, youve seen them all

anti anonymous

The problem in Spain, is that the actual socialist president, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, have gived freedom a basque terrorist of ETA, this terrorist have killed 25 persons and the socialist get him in freedom because if he stand more time in jail, he would say that the terrorist attack of 11-M was made by basques terrorists, ETA, and if this happens the socialist party PSOE would be ilegalizated for covering a terrorist attack.
