Edwards HQ Vandalized. Campaign Blames Virtual Republicans.

Vandal

It's bad enough having Fox News excoriate you for not staffing your HQ and calling on you to denounce virtual underage sex brothels, but now there is the problem of Republican griefers. According to an Edwards campaign worker, it was not pretty.

Shortly before midnight (CST) on Monday, February 26, a group of republican Second Life users, some sporting "Bush '08" tags, vandalized the John Edwards Second Life HQ. They plastered the area with Marxist/Lenninist posters and slogans, a feces spewing obsenity, and a photoshopped picture of John in blackface, all the while harrassing visitors with right-wing nonsense and obsenity-laden abuse of Democrats in general and John in particular.

Story is here. The campaign worker says he filed an abuse report with Linden Lab. Um, sure, that'll work.

Like I said, there goes the neighborhood. :P

Just noticed that this was also covered on GamePolitcs.com: http://gamepolitics.com/2007/03/01/edwards-sl-hq-trashed/

And there is also a thrash about this "typical rethuglican" behavior on the Daily Kos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2007/3/1/123940/7891

The latter includes a poll on whether Second Life is a viable option for a political campaign. The majority say "no". I would have to agree. Unless you are going to monitor your HQ 24/7 AND have it safely tucked away on an island, you are just providing a prop for griefer photo ops.

Tad McConachie

That all sounds a bit too imaginative for Republicans...

Jimbo Quality

Do we have to let the politicians and the lawyers in? You know they're way sleazier than brothels and whatever else this woman was complaining about. Next we'll start letting actors and evangelical christians in, and the place will REALLY get perverted.

Khamon

I suppose it's inconceivable that lefty alts did this to gain advertisement and dump on the right wingers as a bonus.

Lukas

What retards. Try growing up some day. I guess Bush supporters makes sense. They don't like people expressing opinions that they don't agree with you know. Things have to be up to make to look very cut and dry. :)

Gawd. "Lefty"? Ahh, if the world really could be deduced to stereotypes...

shockwave yareach

Strange that the JE folks are "with it" enough to set up a campaign HQ for SL, but not enough to know something as basic as sweeping non-group items out of their land. Press a button and WHOOSH! all the offending garbage is gone. Unless, of course, those doing the trashing are in their own group - that opens up other issues though.

jummy

Khamon and shockwave yareach sort of took the words out of my mouth. i was there a couple of weeks ago and object creation and object entry were off.

john edwards' camppaign volunteers trashed their own place and are blaming it on the republicans. they are liars.

jummy

something to note though is the incredibly offensive image of john edwards in blackface. progressive netroots critics have adopted the offensive iconography of blackface to smear both black republicans and democrats the regard as having sold out ideological purity. they did this to lieberman and steel and even wolf blitzer. could be that the vandalism was an inside job by an edwards campaigner gone obama or clinton.

Jim Schack

I dunno if you guess noticed the Cell with blackface or the "over 9000" comment. This isn't politics in play, this is 4chan, /b/ and Patriotic Nigras at work. As far as putting in a Abuse Report... Good luck with that. I put in millions of those things from dealing with these /b/tards with no results.

Nacon

Hahahahahahhahahahahaha! ahh...*wipe his tears* gotta like idiotism and sense of irony blending together at the right timing for wrong/stupid reason.

1Time Daehlie

This appears so 'staged'. With tools on parcels to prevent this from occurring like autoreturn and ability to restrict what's built on someone's land. This is just an attempt to create an inflammatory situation. - 1Time

Prokofy Neva

No, blackface and the obsession with blacks comes from the 4chan Patriotic Nigras people. So maybe Uri is right, they did it.

Mudkips Acronym

"4chan, /b/ and Patriotic Nigras at work."

Nope, just PN.

http://www.freewebs.com/patrioticnigras/

Jim Schack

PN = 4Chan
PN = /b/
Same crap, diffrent asshole. Funny how they claim to be seperate from 4chan when they use almost all the 4chan memes in their attack. I think they need moar brains in thar raids. LULZ.... not really =/

Mudkips Acronym

Sryno.

The fact that we're from /b/ doesn't mean we are /b/. We're a separate organization, Mr. Internet Security Expert (tm). 4chan systematically bans calls for invasion.

By extension, you could call us all goons cause 4chan was started as a spin-off of SA's anime boards..I guess we're all from W-HAT then, huh?

excellent

lets just blame plastic duck
