Jack Linden in Drag - Girls’ Night Out

Jack Linden joins the girls for a shopping spree

by Pixeleen Mistral, National Affairs desk

Girlie_jack_lindenThese sort of things always sounds promising in the beginning - and how could I resist? An e-mail delivered to the Herald offices said, “iVillage, the leading online destination for women, cordially invites you to join us at our new Second Life Loft to kick off the first-ever iVillage Girls’ Night Out”. We were promised virtual champagne, and “an exclusive insider tour to showcase the great locations, personalities, music and content” in Second Life - and a pink HUD to wear to lead us through the various attractions.

“Exclusive” here means a locust-like swarm of more than enough residents to fill a sim to capacity - this happened to the first destination on the tour before I could teleport to it, so I have no idea what happened there. I skipped on to the next stop - Nephilaine Protagonist’s shop, where Moo Money inquired about the Herald’s meth lab - a source of fascination to all who attended the Herald 3rd birthday party. Sadly, the meth lab remains mothballed - but I did bum a blunt from Moo to take the edge off the scene.

Soon enough this sim filled as well, and Nephilaine encouraged some of the throng to stand in the adjacent sim so she could shout to us. Courtesy of Linden Lab, Nephilaine modeled new asymmetric hairstyle - her prim hair never did completely rez for me - but in time I started admiring the look - it happens to me often enough that this sort of thing seems almost natural. I looking around for Jack Linden to suggest he might want to try that style - but saw that Jack had disappeared. Where are those Lindens when you need them?

This sort of event seems like it could be fun - but the organizers need to move residents in smaller groups so the chat is not chaotic and the sims don’t fill. I can’t imagine it was fun for Cory Edo and Cider Starbrook to act as girl scout leaders to a swam of women brandishing champagne glasses, but if these events continue, perhaps the organizers will fine tune the format. I’d also suggest something a bit less structured - I’m sure the mainstream shop owners love the traffic, but maybe some slightly more adventurous destinations could be explored? KatanaBlade Anubis’s Samarai Island perhaps?
